Every spring, I send out an updated version of my simple Homeschool Planning Google Doc template. You can print the pages if that's your jam or go to file--> make a copy for your own digital copy. Here is my exact planning process I loosely start planning in the spring, but I usually don't finalize everything until later in the summer. Hello friends! I made something totally irrelevant to homeschooling. Except if you're like me, it's EXTREMELY RELEVANT... because last week I taught multiplying fractions, simplifying expressions, order of operations and long division. 4 different levels of math not to mention a smattering of other subjects and teen/ tween problem solving. 😉 (In addition to making sure the toddler didn't cut the couch cushions again.) That was just Tuesday. And everyone still needed to eat that day. More than...

January 2026 Timeless Principles of Teaching & Learning It took me a long time to unlearn my own assumptions about school & how kids learn. Do you know what I mean? I thought learning & school were the same; therefore, more school = more learning. I thought my kids needed me to show them how everything works. I thought there must be a right/ best/ better/ superior way of educating at home & searched for years to find it. Today's newsletter is born out of my 20 year journey of thinking about...

The fourth winter & your child's progress. It's winter #4 over here in the midwest. And it got me thinking... our winter 1 - spring 1 - winter 2- spring 2 - winter 3 - spring 3 - summer 1 - winter 4- spring 4 cycle is a good metaphor for how kids learn. As the midwest weather does not go from winter to spring to summer, so humans do not learn in a directly linear fashion. Learning isn't like the left graph... it's much more like the right. Remember, "school" isn't a checklist of tasks to be...

Helloooo! I hope you're having a GREAT summer. Ours has been a whirlwind but so good. As I started to think about fall rhythms & schedules, I realized it was going to be a pretty busy season for us. So when my internet friend Ashley created a 3 month done for you menu plan, I decided to try it. 3 Months Meals DONE I've used her recipes in the past and they're very easy & delicious. I've actually never bought a menu plan online... I typically just cook the same things and meal plan out of my...
